Your Grandy Oats Nordic Update
Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

David and BethAnn Chamberlain here, updating you on our journey to Vancouver 2010. Despite the wet weather, David and I have kept as busy as ever in our preparation for the racing season just a few short months ahead. It is a good thing we don’t melt in the rain, or we would be in pretty ruff shape right now.
Besides one week in Lake Placid earlier in June, David and I have been able to take advantage of all the great training opportunities up here in Aroostook County, ME for most of the summer.
Training during an Olympic year can feel a bit more intense but honestly there isn’t a lot different from an Olympic year to others, just a bit more stress perhaps. We are both trying to minimize the stress and maximize our recovery and make the most of every training session.
I am off to Jericho, VT for a couple of weeks for a training camp with many other biathletes around the country. I will have the opportunity to race in two biathlon time trials. Much of my competition this coming winter will be the same as it will be in these time trails. It is a great opportunity to test oneself, both physically and mentally mid way through the training season.
David has an intensity week coming up. This entails fewer hours of training but greater number of workouts where you are pushing yourself to your limit. A few of these workouts he will perform on treadmill at the University of Maine Presque Isle. Training on a treadmill enables the coach to custom fit the workout and monitor the speed and length of the workout with greater precision. They are not the most exciting training sessions but they do provide a great deal of information of your fitness level.
We have to send our thanks along to Grandy Oats again. Their healthy, nutritious and delicious granolas and trail mixes help us work our way towards the 2010 Olympic team, one bowl at a time!
Thanks for tuning in,
BethAnn and David Chamberlain
